FAMILY LAW SELF HELP CLASSES BEGIN AUGUST 13, 2009

The Family Law Firm (Norman D. Levin, P.A.) has created the Family Law Self Help Services to help people represent themselves in family law cases (Divorce, Dissolution of Marriage, Paternity, Child Support, Child custody, Parenting Plans, Prenuptials, Modifications and Adoptions).  The Service's attorneys explain court procedures, required forms and documents for your specific needs. Our attorney's will prepare you to resolve your own family disputes in court in efforts to move your case along faster with less costs.

The Service provides you information on Dissolution of Marriage, Parenting Plan Issues, Paternity, Child Support, Domestic Violence, and all other family law issues. We can provide you  legal forms that you can then use for your case. We can provide computerised systems that allow you to perform issues of child support, alimony, equitable distribution, parenting, domestic violence and much more. We can provide you unbundled legal services where we can represent you in a limited manner through our self help Services.  This approach breaks down the multiple roles an attorney performs into a smaller, simpler group of tasks.  The State of Florida allows people to represent themselves in court without an attorney (referred to as "pro se") while still permitting attorneys to perform certain tasks for the client.  This process is intended to help people receive the benefit of legal advice in the drafting of documents and preparation of their cases without the necessity of paying an attorney to appear in court on your behalf, unless you request them to do so.

PRO SE LAW CLASSES: The Service provides three (3) monthly two-hour classes for pro se litigants  that help them work their way through the court process: 1. Handling A Family Law Case Through Court; 2. Financial Issues in Dissolution of Marriage and Paternity Cases 3. Parenting Issues in Dissolution of Marriage and Paternity Cases taught by family law attorneys and other professionals.

How do unbundled legal services differ from traditional representation? 

Under Florida laws, an attorney can limit the scope of his or her representation of a client. However, there are certain things the attorney should do.  They should explain to you the risks and benefits of limited representation. The attorney should provide you with meaningful legal advice. If you elect to use "unbundled" or limited representation services, you need to be aware that this type of representation results in the attorney having limited responsibilities to you. You also need to be prepared to "pay as you go" for the services you use.

With all of the freedom of unbundled legal services comes responsibility. You will be responsible for filing your pleadings on time. You will be responsible for gathering information. You will be responsible for structuring your support package. The attorney can coach you and make suggestions, but it will be your job to apply those suggestions to your dissolution and carry through. Unbundling services provides you with a great deal of power in negotiating with your spouse, but the ultimate responsibility for the outcome will be yours.

How much will the unbundled services cost?

There is no set cost for unbundled legal services. You will be charged at the attorneys' hourly rate for attorney services; costs of paralegals at paralegal rates; costs of forms at preposted rates and cost of computer usage at preposted rates. Payment for the services will be due before you receive the service.
